Happy New Year's blogging world! We have made many changes here at A Happy Narrative (formerly known as California Poppies). Most importantly we felt a name change was necessary as we were unable to secure a .com under our previous name. We also wanted something that we felt fit us better (because let's be honest....we're really not very...poppy). We are absolutely over-the-moon-crazy in love with our new name and look. You just know when something is right and we are so happy with our new direction.
So what better time to start fresh than New Year 2014. 2013 held many challenges for us girls here at A Happy Narrative. Namely, our beautiful, lovely, genius of a mother passed away on
February 1, 2013. We were all very close and we
were absolutely devastated when she passed. Our lives will never be the same
again but we are striving to find a new normal and do things that we know she
would want us do. One thing was blogging. She loved our blog and encouraged us
to keep sharing and chasing our dreams. So...we intend to. Our blog, in all of it's
humble goals and achievements, is dedicated to our mother, Janet Marie Woodard
|Mom and I, with little 6 month old Mr. Atticus, on July 4, 2010.|
So how did the Weiland clan ring in the New Year 2014? Besides singing Auld Lang Syne at the top of our lungs at the stroke of midnight and drinking copious amounts of sparkling...apple cider vinegar, we are pretty relaxed with our NYE traditions (yay...not really, we went to bed at 10).
With a 3 year old and an 8 month old, partying is off our to-do list right now, and has been for the last 3 years. We stay home for New Year's. Last year, we had a Harry Potter Marathon. This year, we watched our current obsession: Arrested Development. I know, I know, we are so behind on TV shows. Katie is constantly
badgering telling us to watch this and that and we just
never seem to find the time for much TV watching. This show though is right up
our alley. We love it!
We also like to play Phase 10. We started playing this when we started dating in 2002. We would play Phase 10 for hours and keep track of all our games (and who the winners were-the most important part!) in a spiral bound notebook. Don't be jealous! Kevin and I really know how to party! But seriously, we are just a couple of dorks that just enjoy each other's company and wouldn't want to be anywhere else but with our two babies as we ring in the New Year.
What New Year's post would be complete without a list of New Year's Resolutions? After much thinking and planning (really, a few hours at least!), here is my list:
1. Eat healthier and exercise a little everyday. I need to nurture my physical self as well as my mental self.
2. Do Yoga for at least 30 minutes 3 days a week.
3. Learn German.
3. Learn German.
4. Continue my #2014slrwbookchallenge (on instagram @loodvig79)
5. Cook more (utilize my cookbook collection! They're not just for looks!)
6. Try to get Atticus to eat a green vegetable!! I really don't care which one...any!
7. Write every day. Write my novel. Write about my mom and her death. Write about my children. Just write.
8.Do more Pins. I am a Pinterest addict.
9. Document all the things that I am grateful for...every day.
10. Try to be kinder to everyone, be more understanding, be more accepting.
Awh...that one get's me every time. *tear*
Happy New Year!! I hope everyone has a beautiful year ahead of them. :)
